Today 11th August 2018, I came across something similar to your image of Sparassis spathulata. Highly gelatinous, elastic, smooth, greasy and shiny. Possibly an aged specimen. Never encountered such a 'tree seaweed' hitherto. I would like to send 2 images, one 'global'' the other a close-up of a brown frond end.
